Verified inverter compatibility

PentaVault is tested in real installations against the hybrid inverters Pakistani installers actually deploy, with the protocol and settings documented for each.

Eight hybrid inverter brands, tested and documented

Compatibility here means we have run the combination in a real installation and written down the settings that work, not that a datasheet mentions a protocol.

Why this page exists

The most common cause of a battery that will not behave

When a new battery misbehaves, the cause is rarely the cells. It is usually the conversation between the battery management system and the inverter: a protocol mismatch, wrong communication settings, or a firmware combination nobody has actually tested together.

The result is a system that charges when it should discharge, refuses to accept a charge, or shuts down under load. The owner is then passed between the battery seller and the inverter supplier, each of whom says the other is at fault.

We test PentaVault against the inverters commonly deployed in Pakistan and record the working configuration for each. Compatibility is stated by brand, not by category, and it comes from installations rather than from a datasheet footnote.

  • CAN, RS485 and RS232 protocols supported
  • Charge and discharge windows configured at commissioning
  • As-built settings recorded in your handover pack

Every unit your roof makes is used in one of three places, in this order: the load running right now, the battery, then the grid. A system without storage skips the middle step and sells the surplus at a quarter of what it costs to buy back.

What gets configured, and what it controls

These are the settings an installer has to get right. If nobody can tell you what yours are set to, nobody has checked them.

Compatibility questions

My inverter is not on the list. Can I still use PentaVault?
Often yes. The list covers what we have tested and documented, not the limit of what works. Tell us the make, model and firmware and we will confirm before you commit rather than after.
What does sub-20 millisecond switchover actually mean?
It is the time the hybrid inverter takes to transfer the house from grid to battery when the grid fails. Below roughly 20 milliseconds, a computer, router or refrigerator does not register the interruption, so nothing restarts and no work is lost.
Do you configure the inverter as part of the installation?
Yes. The communication settings, charge and discharge windows and protection limits are configured and verified at commissioning, and recorded in your handover documentation so the next engineer is not guessing.
I already have solar and an inverter. Can you just add the battery?
Usually. The question is whether your existing inverter is a hybrid, or a string inverter that would need replacing or supplementing. A system health audit answers that in an afternoon, and we will tell you if the honest answer is that retrofitting does not pay.
What is the difference between CAN and RS485 here?
They are two ways for the battery management system and the inverter to talk. Which one is used depends on the inverter, and getting the choice and the settings right is why compatibility is stated per brand rather than as a general claim. Both are supported, along with RS232.
Does a firmware update on my inverter break compatibility?
It can, and occasionally does. If your inverter prompts an update and the battery is behaving normally, tell us before you apply it. We keep a record of the firmware combinations we have verified for exactly this reason.
Can I mix PentaVault cabinets with another brand of battery?
We would advise against it and will not warrant it. Parallel packs share charge and discharge current, and two different management systems with different limits will fight each other. Adding another PentaVault cabinet is straightforward; mixing brands is not.
Who configures the inverter, and do I get the settings?
We do, at commissioning, and yes. The communication settings, charge and discharge windows and protection limits are recorded in your handover documentation so that the next engineer to touch the system is not guessing.

Tell us your inverter and we will confirm before you commit

Send the make, model and firmware version. If we have tested the combination we will send you the working settings. If we have not, we will say so rather than guess.
